There are almost as many types of turkey calls as there are turkey hunters. Once you’ve been going out into the woods for a number of years, you’ll probably find not only your personal favorite calls, but also come up with a few variations of your own. In the beginning, however, it is best to pick up a few different calls from each of the major families to find out which ones you play the best.

The most popular type of turkey call is the air call. These calls make their sound when you blow or suck air through them.
